Haunted House

When I arrived at the part of the game where I got the VCR from the attic, took it to the hidden room, opened the panel, clicked on the VCR in my list and aimed it at the empty space on top of the old VCR it disappeared totally and brought the game to a screeching DEAD halt. The tips light keeps telling me to go to the attic to get a new VCR. There is no VCR ANYWHERE.
